[So Quinn's been actually doing some real thinking lately. What Daria said about magic, could it be true? Could she actually learn to cast pretty spells like the princesses and fairies in the movies?

Then again, magic would mean studying and hard work. And Quinn is still slightly at odds with that for...reasons. Yes. Reasons.

She did believe in angels, and still kind of does. But magic's a whole other story.

Shopping, on the other hand, is something she knows. So she's doing that right now.]

Hmm...I wonder how good this shade of purple would look on me. [she holds a pair of chic ankle socks in one hand. She's also considering buying a few things for Daria...just a few gifts to change her mind about a makeover. Hey, just because she understands Daria's resistance doesn't mean she won't stop trying.]

Um, so, where're you from?

The Shire. It's a quiet place. We don't see many folk from outside, to tell the truth.

Really? Doesn't that get lonely?

Not at all; I pride myself on being on very good terms with my neighbors.

[This is true. His money goes a long way towards keeping him respectable, and he isn't so very much like the strange adventurous Took side of his family... until the day he disappeared with that wandering Gandalf and those dwarves.]

Oh? How many of there are you there?

Perhaps about as many as here. [Depending on how he looks at it, at least. It's the type of place where everyone knows their neighbors by name, and their neighbors' business.]

Oh, it must be a big place, then.

There must be a couple hundred at the least.

Not there, no. We all know each other, we all grow up together, we all pitch in when there's something to be done or something to celebrate.

That sounds so cute! Lawndale only pitches in when the school needs money or something.

That's still helpful, isn't it? As far as I can see, it still helps everyone in the end.

Oh yeah, I've even gotten in on the fundraisers! One time I sold about a hundred dollars worth of phone cards.

[Not sure what phone cards are, but he gets the point: selling goods and giving the proceeds to charity or something like that.]

I think that's very admirable of you.

Well, it's kind of a thing with us in the Fashion Club. We like to help the community in any way we can.

Fashion club? [Well, now he's going to be worrying these traveling clothes aren't nearly sharp enough to be seen in. And he takes such care when he can, really.]

[They're not, but by now Quinn sort of gets that you're not exactly from Lawndale]

We discuss clothes, what's in and what's out, coordinate our wardrobes according to seasons and if there's a big dance...and of course, we give makeovers and do community service.

It sounds like a pleasant social club at that. [That just might be a tactful hint that he would gladly become a member. If, you know, Shire fashion is fashion enough. And if males are allowed.]

Er...yeah, I guess it is. [Bilbo, I don't think you want to be a part of this club.]

[He really doesn't; but he doesn't know that yet. On the brighter side, he doesn't drop any more hints than that.]

It's not always easy to find the right sizes here, for a start.

Well, you've gotta try things on, just like at any clothing store.

In the middle of the shop? [He sounds somewhat surprised by this. This is quite different from heading to the local tailor, and more privacy, after all.]

I suppose I could bring a few promising things to try at home. I could always return them if they don't suit after all.

Oh no, most stores have fitting rooms!

Yeah, or you could do that. Just don't take forever or they'll be really unfair about taking them back.

I haven't seen a single tailor working on that, but I'll be sure to be prompt about returning nonetheless.
