It actually looks good, mainly because she had a lot of help, and she only stuck herself with the needle once! Hard work actually feels good, who would've figured.

That is correct! It is like many wars that have been fought throughout history. You have never heard of this war in the past? [Now he wonders what she'll think of the fact that he's in the middle of fighting a war back home.]

No! I mean, I knew about the Malnosso, but not the war...

Ah... I see. The Malnosso sometimes draft portions of the village to fight battles in their war. You have never even heard of it, so... I am so glad that you were never drafted!

Me too! ...I think that kid my sister hangs out with got dragged in, though. She said something about it. I hope he didn't get himself blown up or anything. [Not that she knows him well enough to worry, but no one deserves to be blown up. ~~Except maybe Sandi.~~]

Ah... I certainly hope not, either. [He says a little quietly and more distant than usual. It makes him think of the Cultists' bomb.] I- I hope that he is alright!

...I hope so, too. I hear he's pretty much just a kid. Kids shouldn't have to be in on this stuff.

Ah... Yes. Youth is something that must be protected. War is not the place for one so young and inexperienced...

Yeah, kids should just stay where it's good and safe.

Right! But let's not ruin this day by talking about such icky things like war. [smiles] Aren't you glad it's summer? Everything's so bright and pretty!

[He smiles at that.] Yes, that is true! I am glad for this warm summer air. It is very youthful and lovely!

Heh, you're really fascinated with youth...you don't see yourself as that old, I hope! I mean, I never did ask your age but you've gotta be at least college-age. It's okay, though, I've dated college students before!

Ah... a college? [He gets a little nervous at dating being brought up.] Let me address your concerns in order!

First! I am truly fascinated with youth, and that is because of everything I have learned from Gai-Sensei! Secondly, I do not see myself as old at all. I see myself as living in the springtime of youth! And as for my age... I can currently be considered to be 19! It has been two years since I first came here to Luceti. In a sense... I may be turning 20 in several months!

[She listens intently, nodding]

I see! This Gai sounds pretty colorful...just like you! [she laughs] So you are college-age, then. No wonder you seem so smart!

Thank you! I have definitely learned a lot! And it is all due to Gai-Sensei. I am honored to be compared to him a all!

Sen-sei...that's how you say "teacher" back home, then? [Sorry, Quinn isn't up on her Japanese. Or many other foreign languages save for French! And even that's only high school level.]

That's right! It's an honorable way of saying it. Gai-Sensei has taught me so much in my road to becoming a ninja!

He sounds like quite a guy...I don't remember the last time a teacher had that effect on me. [Well, she does. But he also broke her heart so that cancels it out in her book.]

He certainly is quite the guy! I am very sorry that you have not had a teacher like him. He can inspire anyone to make their dreams a reality through hard work!

I wish Lawndale had teachers like that! The closest we have is Mr. O'Neill with his new-age feelings stuff, but even he's a flake. [It's mainly through Daria that she's begun to realize the teachers' flaws but still] And don't get me started on our history teacher!

I see. I am sorry that your teacher is... ah, flake-like. I hope that Gai-Sensei returns here some day, and that he can teach you everything he knows!
