[If she were home right now, she'd be going into her...second year of college? Yeah, that sounds right. Second year at Pepper Hill, unless she wised up and tried to get into somewhere better even though she'd taken a vow of solidarity with the Fashion Club.

I could do better, though. That's why she'd wanted a tutor, why she'd begged David for another chance when he tried to write her off. Why she'd gotten a B on the last test she'd taken before she came here.

Yet she hasn't done anything about her education here, so far. She's done a lot for her social education, started a new and better fashion club, made new friends, learned new cultures. But (and this is VERY scary and weird for her to admit) she misses books and tests and teachers. Not so much that she'd give her shoes for a class with Mr. DiMartino, but she feels a little guilty for not doing anything with her school education.

There's a school here, right? She knows nothing about it, but maybe it doubles as a college?]

It's more like... people falling in love with someone they didn't expect, who suited them best.

You could say that, depending on the staging. [more often, it's banter but that's ok]

A lot of romantic comedies have slapping in them, especially the old ones. It's really intense but so unattractive, not to mention a girl could break a nail against a guy's cheek!

I think the guy might be the one more hurt in that case...

[Look, she can't help herself. Also, it's quite possibly true. Also, she wouldn't recommend slapping to solve any real problems. Although more than one of her friends has been known to think with their fists...]

Yeah, there's also that. Sometimes a guy deserves a smack for, say, forgetting your birthday or cheating on you, but if they do something little like take you to a chain restaurant or forget to say something nice about your outfit that's going overboard. [Hey, at least these days she acknowledges chain restaurants and not noticing her outfit are only misdemeanors.]
