[The new Fashion Club has been a success, and it feels more like a fashion club than the old one. Back home she and the girls were all talk, but here they're actually doing something to help those in need. This is the sort of thing Quinn always wished she could do without looking like a tryhard geek in front of the girls, or suggest without Sandi shouting her down.

She's at the store right now, looking at various makeup shades and hair colors. Considering a little change...not a complete dye job, but some highlights. Maybe a subtle copper or gold shade to bring out its natural beauty.

Plus, she needs some new mascara. Her old one's officially three months old and almost empty anyway.]

Now, should I buy my usual black or go for a more natural-looking brown? Or perhaps midnight blue...

[Daria was here for the actually necessary grooming items, like new soap and shampoo. Unfortunately, that meant running into Quinn around the makeup.]

You could try something exciting. Blue and purple with sparkles.

[This is not an excited suggestion at all, in that voice.]

[One thing about Quinn: She always looks absolutely beautiful, no matter what, it seems to Ami. She's not jealous of that, precisely, but she'd like-]

I think they'd both look good on you, or the blue would, too.

Daria! What have I told you about sneaking up on me?!

I know, but it's a question of how well they'd go with certain outfits, or the rest of my makeup. Brown mascara doesn't work so well with frostier shadows, and blue can be tricky and make your whole face look sickly if you're not careful.

[Ami, from behind neutral and understated makeup, doesn't exactly follow the idea of being into it quite that much, but she nods, willing to enter into the spirit a bit, at least.]

I never thought about things like that much.

I wanted to observe you in your natural habitat. I couldn't do that if I was cutting through the brush and shouting at the top of my lungs, could I?

Ha ha, Daria. This isn't some geeky nature documentary, this is important.

Most people don't. Some of them think it's enough to pick a shade based on their skin tonw and that's it.

I'm not sure how which makeup shade complements your shoes today contributes to the sum of human knowledge.

[... not that all documentaries are worthwhile, either.]

You know a lot about it. You could have been a model, I think. [Which, given the first part of that statement, is not only tribute to Quinn's looks.]

It's more important than you think, Daria. Or at least, it's important to me.

[Ah, yes, modeling...her only attempts at it ended less than well, with that first agency picking Kevin over her and that mother-daughter show...ugh, she doesn't even want to remember it.]

Sometimes that's still my dream, yeah...

If you don't want to, you shouldn't have to! But I think, if it's your dream, you shouldn't give up on that. l

[Quinn's got her there, really, not that Daria has to admit this.]

If I let you bring all this junk home, no more leaving beauty tips sitting around. [like accidents]

[Bulla's picking up a few supplies for the salon, and a couple more for her own personal collection when she spots Quinn and hears her thinking out loud.]

I'd avoid the midnight blue...but whether you get black or brown depends on what colours you're going to be wearing. Have you picked up anything new that brown would be better suited to?

[She's picking up some of the midnight blue for herself, but with her hair colour being what it is, that is the most natural looking option.]

Have you seen any of the waterproof kind around?

Oh? I've used midnight blue once, and it didn't look quite right with my outfit so I washed it off. I have some new summer clothes in bright colors, peach and lemon and lime and other fruits...and yeah, I'm looking for waterproof myself. Back home it was more expensive, but it was always worth it.

Well, sometimes I think it'd be the best life ever, but modeling agencies can be so picky. I don't plan to ever lose my looks, but if I get older they could just as easily trade me in for someone younger. And that rejection would hurt too much.

Fine, Daria, you get your way. Boy, you sure know how to ruin a person's fun!

Well, here it's free, so it's just a matter of what's available, really. I think you should stick with black for now, and maybe go with brown for your fall wardrobe.

[Fortunately, it doesn't take too long to find a few lonely waterproof packages of mascara off in the corner. Bulla claims a midnight blue for herself and passes a black to Quinn.]

Waterproof is best to have for beach parties...and also for training.

I think a lot of models work hard so there's something else they can do, too. Just in case.

[Not that she's saying Quinn will get old! Of course not. But she knows, for example, Minako doesn't count on her career lasting forever; some day, she'll fall back on an education that lets her find another job, too.]

I'll count that as a resounding victory.

Yeah, black's probably better anyway because it goes with just about anything. Brown's trickier. [she smiles] Thanks! This'll be perfect!

Yeah, that's another thing. I'll need a job for when I get older, and I was thinking fashion designer for that. Which...actually sounds more promising than modeling at times.

You could study both. I think a model would gain good insight into the fashion industry to carry over to design. And you have good taste; you could develop something really new.
