[A short time later, Quinn is still getting used to her new surroundings. Having wings and the overall feel of the place is still so weird! But she has plenty of new outfits, and that makes up for it. Well, sort of. She still has nowhere to stay.

Ami's been nice enough to let Quinn stay with her and her housemates, which has been...well, interesting, at least. It's not what she's used to and she's sure she's rubbed a few people the wrong way, but at least she hasn't been kicked out yet. Which is more than she can say for certain Fashion Club presidents and their houses.

She wonders if she should be picking up the pace on her search for her own place, but she's getting used to Ami and the others. Well, maybe they won't mind another person...besides, she'd rather be living with people than alone! Only people like Daria want to be alone!]

Hey, does anyone mind me doing my nails? Because if I do I'll need to open a window, it smells pretty strong.

[Quinn, when Ami was twelve she's not sure she ever wore nail polish.

Amazing! It seems like it be hard to do.

It took a lot of practice, yeah. [unscrews the top of the bottle and holds out her non-dominant hand]

If it's alright... [From the hesitation, she must have one huge request...]

Would you also be able to do mine?

Oh, sure! Of course I would! This color would look good on you, or maybe a nice darker metallic blue!

[It's funny, when she actually tried this type of thing when she was younger, she hadn't been good at it at all. Now that she's older, being around someone like Quinn, who's so outgoing and good at these things herself, it feels sort of refreshing. Nostalgic.]

Blue is my favorite color. I don't mind trying either.

But do you really have a lot of different shades here? [Not that the stores don't probably have more colors than anyone could imagine, but... well, is that a priority?]

I stocked up at the store! I have at least one shade of every color of the rainbow.

[Quinn, you should be more serious about looking for necessities instead!

What comes out of Ami's mouth:]

I think you should also be careful to find things like warm clothes, with winter coming. [Quinn likes shopping, right? Perhaps the gentle hint will be taken.]

Oh, I bought some sweaters and a new scarf. But hmm, you've got a point. I do need a new winter coat and some gloves!

As long as you're prepared. It's important; the weather can be unpredictable. [This is mostly thanks to the Malnosso.]

Yeah, I try to be prepared for any kind of weather. I don't want to risk sunburn, dry skin, wet frizzy hair or muddy shoes.

[That's... not really the type of preparation Ami had in mind. But at least it's a start, and leads to some practical steps.]

Something like that. But if you're not prepared for the weather, you could get sick, too. Or find yourself without enough to eat.

I know you're supposed to keep canned food for emergencies, but those have so much salt and they're pretty gross. Plus one time my dad cut his finger on one of the lids and that's supposed to hurt.

[Quinn, there are times you're very frustrating.]

We could look for some that wouldn't be as salty. Nowadays, everyone's concerned about healthier foods, so companies are making more.

Well, that's good. And I guess crackers and dried food, Mom always makes a big deal about having those in case of emergency. [And yet she still makes the same stupid frozen lasagna every night.]

[Ami would have taken the frozen lasagna over eating alone because Mama was late at the hospital.]

Your mom taught you to be prepared, too, then. [She was. Starting to wonder, a little.] You should follow all her advice.

Mom always was pretty well-organized. She was always trying to get me to be the same way. [Maybe she appreciated it a little. Maybe.]

It was like that for me, too; and I wanted to take after Mama. I first wanted to become a doctor because of her.

...that's so sweet.

It takes a lot of work studying to be a doctor, but it was worthwhile. I'll be able to do a lot of things.

I wanted to be a doctor once myself. [She still doesn't really like remembering why, though.]

[Is it rude if she's surprised? Probably; so Ami says nothing about that.]

I think it's an admirable goal. Doctors are people who help everyone, everywhere.

Yeah, they are. But they have to learn so much stuff and it can get pretty gross. And if their patients die on them that's just terrible. [Quinn doesn't know how she'd deal with it, anyway]

It would be. [Luckily, something she hasn't faced yet - she'd still been mostly observing back home, even though she'd also been advising the senior surgeons.]

But even though that can happen, if there's something I can do to help someone, or save them, I want to be able to do it. I don't want to see them hurt, and not be able to do anything.

...you're really brave.

I don't know if it's bravery. I just don't want to have regrets.
